    Question:

I'm short on Hallertau hops. I have 2# and need 3.25# for my bittering batch.
Going to try filling in with Mt. Hood. The Hallertau is 2.1%: the Mt. Hood is 4.2%; so I'm going with 10 oz of the Mt. Hood to sub for the 1.25# of Hallertau.

I have enough Hallertau for the flavoring hop addition at the end of my boil.

who thinks I can get away with it? how's the math sound?

    Cheers

    hop substitute

I got 10 oz , I think the change between Mt Hood and Hall won't be too noticeable as bittering hops (might even like it better cause its cheaper)... just curious, what kind of beer do you brew with 2% bittering hops? I recently used 3% for bittering an Oktoberfest. It was a poor yield due to too many hops in the kettle but the character was awesome...just curious

Thanks for the response. I'm brewing a bock, 7bbl batch, and hopping it with two batches of Hallertau, 3.25# each, one at the beginning and one towards the end.

I think it'll come out ok, since it's going in first for the bittering.

      Cheers
