  • Water testing

    All,
Any tips for in house water testing. I've about had it with my local water supplier's lack of info on water quality. Our problem is that we pull from a number of different wells in the area that vary dramatically! I'm looking for suggestions on testing for RA, Calcium, Chloride, etc. Thanks in advance.

This may be a little dated, but the "Alkalinity - Part I" file on A.J. deLange's website (http://ajdel.wetnewf.org:81/) describes some methods for testing alkalinity and hardness. The Chlorine/Chloramine article lists a few tests for chlorine, although common chlorine preventions (e.g. carbon filtration or sodium/potassium metabisulfite) are so benign that you might as well just use them and skip the testing.

You may want to test the water from your hot liquor tank instead of testing your source water. That way, your tests will acknowledge the precipitation of calcium carbonate.
