  • 50L poly keg disposal?

We have a number of 50L black poly-coated kegs with broken handles, bases, punctures, ect. that we want to dispose of. Does anyone know of a way to recycle these types of kegs? We would rather not see them go to a landfill, any input would be appreciated.

50L poly keg disposal, still no leads 5yrs later

There must be at least one other brewery out there who has had to dispose of their old DAS PLUS kegs. I'm researching the same dilemma Dylan was asking about 5 years ago, how to dispose of these rubber coated kegs. Has anyone figured out the best way to get rid of a bunch of the things? Our local scrap yard stopped taking them b/c of the hassle of the rubber coating. Thoughts/suggestions?

Sadly, recycling is at an extreme low right now, due to numerous factors. We've been having trouble getting rid of regular 1/2bbl all SS kegs. The best we've found is to re-purpose them--woodstoves ( https://www.flickr.com/photos/chesnimages/4103661043 ), flowerpots, brew vessels, whatever. The alternative is to remove the spears and crush the kegs using a Caterpillar (to save space on the truck) and sell them as scrap SS--at rock-bottom prices.

        Plastic recycling is even worse.

Yeah, unfortunately, that stove took about 30 hours of trial-and-error and lots of TIG welding, so please don't ask to buy one. It's installed at a local ski area (Ferguson Ridge) warming hut, and one load of wood will keep the small hut at 60-70 F for 6 hrs.

The reason it's so discolored is that I had a bet running with one of my employers that it would melt down almost instantly--so I got it white hot (fueled with cut-up broken hardwood pallets--another recycling problem) and melted a beer bottle on it--nope, SS kegs don't melt--at least, not before glass does!
