Hi All-

We want to number and track our 1/6 bbl. kegs; I'm envisioning some sort of heavy duty sticker. Does anyone have sources, experiences or other great ideas they'd care to share? Thanks a lot.

You should talk to the guys at Real Ale Brewing Co.

I like to use metal stamps in the top rim for the valve. You can also stamp your name in that rim as well. Number and letter stamps are available from McMaster-Carr.
It is important to use the right weight hammer, as a small sledge will bend the neck, but a puny one will not leave sufficient marking depth.

We've had good luck with a paint pen. It does wear off eventually but it's years before that happens.

For future reference, if you decide to order new kegs, Schaefer brand are all serialized from the factory.

I have an earlier version of one of these:

http://sites.dymo.com/Solutions/Pages/Product_Details.aspx?SegmentName=Office%28DYMO_US1 %29&cat=OFFICE_ElectronicLabelMakers%28DYMO_US1%29&prod=1768960%28DYMO%29&page=1

and have been using the labels from it for tank and keg labels. After 4 years in service in which our cornys were labelled in a fairly high impact part of the keg, only a handful had worn unreadable. I now use them for barcode labels on our new kegs in a no impact place (next to spear on top of keg) and am very satisfied.

It is super easy to print to the printer from M$ Word using MailMerge for serial numbering...

My experience is with the standard D1 labels:

http://sites.dymo.com/solutions/pages/Labels.aspx?cid=1010%28DYMO%29&SegId=Office%28DYMO_US1%29&gid=1000%28DYMO%29&Stype=segment

as they proved highly resistant to keg bashing and the outside washing of kegs with a scrubby and chlorinated caustic.

Cheers,
Jeff

Thanks a lot all! I figured you'd have some great, practical suggestions.
