So I have a spadoni DBCL 80 3m2 filter. When it is happy I have to choke the shit out of the main ball valve just past pump outlet and get it "happy" (good dosing, good clear beer) at about 3 bbl per minute. the filter can go much faster than this, however after 60 bbl of beer I find this 3 bbl/minute a good mark to successfully not blind the beds around bbl 45 or so, especially when I drop down to the racking arm.
The reason for the post: my motor continues to have problems and need to get new ones (due to mechanical seals blowing, guide veins or some other issue) about every year or so.
Today I rigged up a normal centrigual pump (max 30 psi), and it has worked BEAUTIFULLY without having to choke past the outlet: granted this was a very very clear unfiltered beer and wasn't dry hopped.
What do other people use for pumps out there on DE filters? Has anyone has success retrofitting with good filterability of all 14 day styles with a normal baldor/thompsen combination?
