  • Startup Questions

Anyone with time to answer a few general questions on brewpub startup would be appreciated. Thanks.

What were the biggest obstacles in starting?

Since opening what have been your key factors in success?

Is there anything you would have done differently?

What advice would you offer with regard to choice of brewing equipment?

Who were the biggest nay sayers? Any issues with permits?

What was the public response? What different groups helped you or hindered you?

What sources would you recommend to find a brewmaster?

If you were to start a brewpub what would you recommend to a brew master?

If you were running a brewpub what would you want in a brew master?

What training courses did you take that were beneficial (Siebel?)
    What do you recommend?

What suggestions do you have for raising capital/financing?

If you were to start a Brewpub what would be your biggest concerns?

Do you have any general tips for merchandising?

    2 suggestions.

    1) Work with the city and council, there may be money available to assit you in your endevor or tax freezes on certain properties.

    2) Get your money in cash. Do not rely on banks. And no matter how well you have your business plan laid out, double the amount you beleive needed. There is so much BS in starting up and this is a very very capital intensive business with slow cash flows starting out (Banks don't like to see all your money tied up with little cash flows coming in).

If I can be of further help let me know.

Can't agree more with point 2) above regarding the budget ... crazy but true! If you don't do this, you WILL come in short, just at the moment when you can least use it.

Don't underestimate the cost of all of the non-core-brewery items (e.g. utilities and their conditioning), since they sometimes seem so 'unimportant', yet they creep up on you...
