  • Brewing Laboratory Chemist Position

Are you seeking a challenging position in the best US commercial beer and spirits testing facility?

Brewing and Distilling Analytical Services seeks an entry level/masters level chemist or biochemist for a full time position leading to the Lab Manager position.

HPLC and GC expertise preferred, but microbiology and in depth spectroscopy experience would be a plus. In Lexington, KY, BDAS, LLC has the only fully computerized ballot testing for beer that we are aware of in a commercial dedicated spirits, beer and wine testing lab.

We are triple TTB certified and well respected in the industry. We are growing fast and in order to keep up seek to fill this full-time equivalent, and soon another part time, position. The full time position is expecting a dedicated, hardworking individual who will grow with us and gain more senior status over the coming 5 to 10 years. Please send a resume to gspedding@alcbevtesting . com (link broken to reduce spam) and we look forward to talking in depth about this position to serious candidates.

    Gary Spedding, Ph.D. Managing Owner.

Three candidates so far (one from further afield than we imagined) have expressed interest from earlier BA postings. We are primarily looking for an entry level (BSc. or possibly Masters degree level) but we will consider more experienced individuals as necessary. But a solid biology, biochemistry or, better, chemistry background is required. However, someone looking for a longer term to be willing to grow into the position is also a key factor. We look forward to growing together with the right individual for this position to maintain our program as the best testing facility the US has to offer globally for brewers, distillers and enologists (we do a little wine work) and the fuel ethanol industry. We are also aware of some positions to be filled within the industry itself (labs, breweries, and distilleries) and would be happy to discuss where those jobs are for interested individuals.

Respond privately through the Probrewer link or to gary (gspedding@alcbevtesting dot com).

Several good responses so far. We put out our final call on several LinkedIn groups today and will accept a few more interested applicants over the next week or so before we will need to delve deeper to find our right match. But our interviews have started at least via phone at this stage. The position involves testing beer, wine and spirits plus running a Taste panel. We are finding some other potential positions for more overqualified candidates. You can let me know if you are seeking entry level brewing positions, marketing jobs and the like as we get news on many jobs out there.

I thank all those who showed interest in this posting and the position. Barring any unseen issues or circumstances the position has now likely been filled - our potential new hire is experiencing a Pirates Beer tour of Lexington as I write this.

Also there is a second shift entry level chemist position at Buffalo Trace in Frankfort KY up for grabs. See sazerac.com for details on current new positions available.

Mr. Matthew Linske was appointed to our full-time chemist/microbiologist position effective October 1st 2012. We also hired a UK intern for part-time work. Thanks for your interest and please help me in welcoming Matt to the brewing industry -full-time.

              Update at BDAS, LLC.

Since Matt Linske joined us three years ago we hired another lead chemist. Amber Weygandt handles the GC and Distillation services. Gary continues pioneering spectroscopy techniques and we offer internship positions through local Universities.
In 2016 we may be in a position to add another person to our ever growing services operations. Keep tuned in.
