    Butternuts Beer & Ale is looking for an experienced Cellar person

    Butternuts Beer & Ale is located in Central New York 20 miles due west of Cooperstown and 40 miles due south of Utica. We are located on a 100 acre retired dairy farm and have our brewery located in the former dairy barn. We have been in business for 7 years and are on track to produce 8,000 bbls for 2012 and expect to exceed 10,000 bbls for 2013. Our brand, marketing image and location are tied into our farm house country setting. Our products are packaged primarily in cans but do draft and bottles as well. We are utilizing a 14 bbl Peter Austin kettle as a three vessel brewhouse system capable of 50+ bbl per day knock outs.

    The cellar job requires physical labor and heavy lifting, standing for long periods and working around noisy equipment. Any person applying for the job will be required to ware work boots and proper work clothes that will allow them to work in and out of hot and cold environments. Handling chemicals and hot water will be an everyday occurrence.

    The ideal candidate would have minimum 3 years experience working in a medium size production facility. Brewing degree or short course training in brewing or related science course is a plus. Knowledge of brewing processes and equipment and an understanding of sanitary processes and sanitary handling required. The ability to enrich our current working environment and a genuine interest in expanding ones knowledge and skill while fulfilling the expected work load is of primary importance. This person will work under the direction of our head brewer and would need to take direction and work well with others in a close working environment. This is a full time position and may have an alternating schedule and occasional weekend work.

    Cellar duties include but are not limited to the following:

    • Cleaning and sanitizing beer tanks
    • Sanitary handling of yeast cultures for storage and pitching fermenters
    • Transfer beer from fermentation tanks and conditioning tanks
    • Set up, filter beer and break down plate and frame filter
    • QA/QC ability, testing and sign off on beer quality
    • Carbonating beer
    • Working with Brewhouse knock outs
    • Cleaning and sanitizing process equipment
    • Record keeping and work space organization
    • Keg cleaning
    • Over all cleanliness of work area
    • Help throughout the operation as needed
