We’re looking for an experienced Lead Brewer to join the team at our Berkeley Brewery, home of the Pyramid line. The Lead Brewer organizes the brew house and cellar schedules and provides hourly supervision of shift brewers working in the department. This position organizes daily execution of the transfer schedule, enforces standards of procedure, relieves shift brewers during a shift and substitutes for vacationing brewers. This position performs light maintenance and enforces and executes a cleaning schedule. Our Lead Brewer has responsibility for yeast management. This position performs all of the jobs in the brewing department including the brew house and cellar to execute a weekly brewing schedule per the Standard Operating Procedures. This position performs certain quality control tests on the product at various stages of brewing and has direct, hands-on responsibility for producing quality craft beers. The position is physically demanding and requires the ability to be in several places simultaneously. Our brewers also get the opportunity to represent Pyramid at different functions such as brewers’ dinners and festivals.
Our ideal candidate has 2-3 years combined of brewing and lab experience. At minimum, attendance of a course or program on brewing, or equivalent brewing experience. Preferred – BS/BA with long course in brewing and course work in fermentation science. Experience in a similar industry (ex., wine) will also be considered.
