  • Labeling question - Bourbon barrel aging

We are in California, but selling nationally.

Are there any special labeling requirements for beers aged in bourbon barrels? Similarly to using orange peel and coriander and having to label the bottles as beer made with "natural flavoring?"

Do you have a good online resource where all of this info can be found?

    Thanks,

    Formulas on-line

Hi Kushal - the same process used for any other beer that contains ingredients other than malt, hops, water and yeast. State the process and ingredients and submit through Formulas On-line. The amount of alcohol added by the barrel aging is "zero", this is important because if you say that alcohol is added by the barrel aging you need to also identify "how much". If you are using barrels drained and purged then there should be no alcohol added.
The label will need to state "aged in oak barrels" or some other similar wording.
The TTB website has information on this process.
    Cheers
