  • Sanitizing the manway shadow

Sort of dumb question but how are most people sanitizing their manway shadow, assuming your vessel has one. My two choices are fill up the vessel with enough sanitizer to go past the shadow and recirculate through the CIP arm or just put a barrel or so of sanitizer in the vessel and before/after running the sanitizer through the CIP arm, opening up the manway and manually wiping sanitizer around the shadow.

I like the idea of keeping the vessel closed after I sanitize but at the cost of 3x more water/sanitizer, not sure it is worth it.

    spray bottle

I like to spray star san or iodophor with a spray bottle on the shadow, wait a minute, then close up the tank and perform the full sanitation.

I agree, tho I prefer one of those garden pump sprayers, like you use for weed killer (un-used of course). I've been using this method on all my fermentation vessels. Just soak the inside down real well and let it drain. Works great as long as we aren't talking 60 bbl or anything like that.
