    This position reports to the Brewing Manager and has direct responsibility in Managing the safe and efficient day to day operations of the Brewing department. This position is responsible for overseeing Brewing Supervisors, Brewing Leads and Brewers to ensure that all brewing products are produced efficiently, effectively and meet or exceed BBC quality standards. This position requires an extremely perceptive person, who is capable of relating to a group of diverse individuals at all levels within the organization.




    About the Opportunity


    Ingredients To Be A Successful Brewing Operations Manager

    •Actively manage the brewing supervisors, brewing leads and brewers. This includes but is not limited to work schedules, development plans, coaching, reviews, and discipline.
    •Actively coach and develop brewing supervisors and leads.
    •Must be able to work in and promote a team oriented and “Safety First” environment. Safely, efficiently and effectively work to attain department and brewery goals and objectives. Ensure “No bad beer leaves the brewery”.
    •Must observe, practice and enforce all Department/Brewery Safety and Operating Procedures, including the use of proper PPE.
    •Ensure that Supervisors successfully execute, personally and through others, process and formulation of Boston Beer Company products to ensure adherence to specification and performance targets.
    •Responsible for the successful communication and execution of brewing, yeast, fassing, filtering, CMB, cider, and mix/blend schedules.
    •Ensure daily and consistent communications between and across departments as needed. Including start of shift meetings and shift hand offs.
    •Lead and drive others with CI teams and safety programs.
    •Insure proper reporting, investigation and accurate communications for work related injuries by the brewing team.
    •Support and foster a high performance team environment through highly motivated, engaged operators to support a climate of continuous improvement.
    •Recruit, hire, supervise and review performance of direct reports; develop self and staff professionally and technically to meet department goals and objectives.
    •Recommend improvements and desirable modifications to processes and equipment within the Brewing area to improve safety, capacity, cost, and/or quality.
    •Analyze historical data to help project future needs and staffing.
    •Must be able to read trends and adjust departmental needs to match the trends.
    •Ability and desire to grow into Brewing Manager’s role.
    •Knowledgeable on company policies and procedures and administers them in a fair and consistent manner. Including but not limited to Brewery attendance program.
    •Promote Boston Beer culture, values and principles as well as participate in company functions.
    •Promote positive customer relationships.
    •Ability to be flexible and shift priorities in a constantly changing, fast-paced work environment.


    To Be Mixed With:



    •BS in Brewing Science, Food Science and Technology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Engineering or related technical field.
    •Brewing Diploma from Siebel or equivalent preferred.
    •Demonstrated leadership abilities
    •5-10 years production brewery experience in Brewing Management.
    •Proven ability to prioritize, make knowledgeable, quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.
    •Competence in of Microsoft Excel/Word and Knowledge of HACCP, cGMPs, Process Improvement and Process Control.
    •Strong communication, interpersonal, and teambuilding skills.
    •Experience with LIMS data systems a plus.
    •Ability to work with all levels of management in multi-functional departments.
    •Proven analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
    •Self-starter, proactive.
    •Demonstrated ability to be successful in a collaborative team environment.
    •Highly effective multi-tasker; resourceful with a “get-it-done, can-do” attitude.
    •Able to impact and effect positive change with a flexible, open-minded, positive approach.


    Physical Demands

    •Must practice safe work methods and comply with wearing and using the proper PPE 100% of the time on the floor and always work in a safe manner.
    •Ability to lift up to 60 lbs repetitively throughout the shift.
    •Fill in as needed to ensure Brewery Supervision during production. May require 12 hour days, weekends, and holidays.
    •Tolerate summer/winter temperature conditions and Hot and Cold in Production Environment
    •Must be able to work assigned shifts as needed
    •While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to endure on a daily basis, walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, and crouching.
