    POSITION SUMMARY:
    North American Breweries, home of the Genesee Brewing Company is seeking a Microbiologist to work in the Rochester location. This position requires the applicant to care for pure yeast cultures and monitor microbiological conditions across a wide variety of liquid types. In addition the position would include helping out in the functioning of additional quality programs to include line and production audits, verifications, and data entry.

    ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
    • B.S. degree in General Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, Biology or a related discipline
    • Candidates are required to have minimum of 4-6 years of professional (not academic) experience solving industrial problems
    • Experience in collecting and analyzing data from plant operations (including carbon and other mass balances) to provide direction for optimal process development.
    • Experience with multiple fermentation configurations (two or more of the following: batch, fed-batch, continuous, aerobic, and anaerobic).
    • Specialized knowledge includes microbial physiology, fermentation principles and operation, culture maintenance and yeast propagation, aseptic techniques
    • Statistical experimental design, monitoring statistical process controls, literature search capabilities
    • Experience working with Clean In Place systems
    • Advanced PC skills, Microsoft Excel and Access, as well as statistical analysis tools such as Minitab

    RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
    • Conduct troubleshooting experiments, assist with training new employees, orders and audit supplies for the fermentation laboratory
    • Study alternative media sources, pre-treatment scheme, and/or bioreactor designs as currently envisioned. Works with peers and management to explore the process flow options in the plant by designing appropriate experiments and collecting and analyzing resultant data.
    • Identifying and quantifying contaminants.
    • Coordinating with other members of the implementation team and other functional groups on run plans, results, contamination reduction projects, SOP’s, sample collection, etc.
    • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs,) properly wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and follow all safety and company policies at all times
    • Perform day to day collection and testing of production samples.
    • Perform other duties as required

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
    • Must be able to work day, evening, night or overnight shift; may include overtime, holidays and weekends
    • Frequent walking and stair climbing while carrying samples is required
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., push, pull, climb, crawl, stoop, kneel and bend
    • Exposure indoors in a factory, outdoors on property
    • Ability work in extreme fluctuation of temperature and working environments including hot/muggy and cold temperatures inside as well as varying outside temperatures and seasons.
    • Moderate to high noise levels
