    that's why I always pre-coat with water and a dash of PA. I also bubble CO2 through the top and crack the line back into the dosing tank. This de-aerates it quite nicely...

      Nice one.

      I think you can get pre-acid washed/processed DE to lessen the impact. Inquire with your supplier.

      Iron can also be a problem with natural DE (iron can catalyze oxidation in your packaged beer). Doing your pre-coats with a bit of citric acid can leach it out with little flavour effect ( you must, of course, drain the precoat water after laying it down). The natural pH of beer can be problematic with metal containing/cationic DE in terms of freeing these metals.

      It is my understanding that less processed forms of DE are more problematic.

      How to deal with body feed? No idea. Use pre-treated DE?

      I switched to perlite about 10 years ago. Less problematic.
