  • Pump to move spent yeast (and hops) slurry

I am looking for a better method for moving spent yeast slurry with a high hop content. The hops tend to compact dramatically and clog pipes and break pumps. Anything out there I should look at?

Most commonly used in larger breweries are peristaltic pumps, but may still use lobe or gear pumps, and for some uses Mohno pumps. Peristaltic pumps also seem to be used increasingly for smaller breweries. Providing the back pressure isn't too high, air driven diaphragm pumps also get used. All of these are positive displacement pumps, so you will need to install a bypass to let most of the CIP by-pass the pump during cleaning (but run the pump as well).
