  • Cleaning bung-sided kegs

Can someone give me the run down on the best way to clean bung-sided kegs? I just bought a handful of well-used BS kegs for taproom one-offs and I want to make sure I can put my beer in them with confidence. Any tips or SOPs would be appreciated. Cheers, Kevin

We are all bung sided on our fleet of 1/2 bbl kegs (~400) and have a washer specifically designed for them. If you aren't just bung them and wash them normally, then pop the bung and inspect with a flashlight and if satisfied, re-bung. One of the advantages of a big hole in the side is that you can check for stone etc. periodically.

      Keg cleanining

With the bug hole down put barrel on a small tank that has a spray ball on a 1/2 inch pipe. use a pump with medium volume and low pressure. Use 3 % caustic @ 60 degrees. Have 2nd setup to rinse barrel.
