Does anyone have a good rule of thumb of how many bright tanks they've needed in relation to how many Primary tanks they have?

How much product do you want to move through your brewery/year? Compared to the capacity of your ferms, that is. The more brights, the more free ferms you'll have; the more product you'll have brewing.

Not knowing what kind of brewery it is, it's impossible to give an answer, but the math is simple. Divide the average time in a fermenter by the time it takes to carbonate/clarify/package/whatever in the brite (plus CIP time), and that's the maximum number of fermenters per brite.

As said, there is no right answer to this question. You could possibly have as many unitanks as you like for only one BBT. We filter into our BBT, let it cool to 2C overnight, and then carbonate in the morning before packaging the whole thing that day. So we can package one batch every other day this way. Obviously we could buy another BBT and package every day if we have fermenters for it. Or you could buy a BBT twice the size of your brewlength. You need to pin down a process before you answer this question. Best guess is one BBT.

I always think your brite tank capacity should be at least 2x your average daily packaging rate. That way, 1/2 your brite tank capacity is full of beer being packaged, and the other half is available to filter/ transfer into and carbonate for the next day.

Thanks everyone, I know it was too general of a question, but this feedback definitely gives me a better perspective to figure this out.
