    Ornery Beer Company & Public House is creating a unique craft beer & dining destination near Potomac Mills Mall in Woodbridge, Va., a market underserved by local craft breweries & brewpubs. Using experienced gained through over a decade of restaurant operations in this location & others in the Northern Virginia market, along with years as operational director of a polished casual brewpub in this market, we are converting our existing restaurant into a new brewpub brand & concept.

    We will be laser focused on our meticulously crafted house brewed ales & lagers and assuring each is served in a fun, casual environment by a craft beer knowledgeable team, and paired with a chef driven, casual pub menu. To accomplish Ornery Beer Company's vision, the General Manager of the Public House must embody the craft beer experience, including:
    • Driven by their Craft Beer enthusiasm & knowledge, yet business minded
    • Passionate about our beer, our food, and how they are served together
    • Execptional guest focused work ethic


    What we are not looking for: General Manager experience that trumps Craft Beer passion. We are more interested in your abilities and passion than your experience. We will have a strong team from our brewer, chef, and ownership to work together in a team effort to build a successful brand. If you believe you are the right person to run a professional but casual brewpub, lets talk!

    Timing for opening is Late May - Late June. We are interviewing now to find the right person to lead the Ornery Beer Company Public House.

    As an executive position, the fluid needs of the business and company will guide the General Manager's job duties & requirements. This is intended to generally outline the needs of the position and company in a startup brewpub:

    Restaurant Operations
    • Direct & manage all restaurant operations in a manner that assures an inviting environment at all times and maintains a loyal & enthusiastic customer fan base.
    • Direct & manage the Executive Chef in a collaborative manner to assure exceptional guest experience, proper costs, and cohesive operations.
    • Hire, Train, & Manage the FOH management team.
    • Develop & Implement hiring & training systems that will attract & retain an all-star craft beer oriented team.
    • Develop & Implement alcohol serving programs that exceed state regulatory expectations.
    • Develop & Implement ongoing repair, maintenance, & cleaning programs for all aspects of the FOH & BOH.
    • Work collaboratively with the Head Brewer & Company to develop on-going beer training systems that grow our team's knowledge & enthusiasm of our beer.
    • Work collaboratively with the Head Brewer & Company in the development & implementation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly on-site events, promotions, and marketing.
    • Hands on & active management that is enthusiastic and leads by example.
    • Periodically brew with the brewery team.


    Administrative & Business Management
    • Develop & Implement cost management systems including labor, supplies, and other restaurant level operating costs.
    • Work collaboratively with the Executive Chef in developing and implementing food cost management & reporting systems.
    • Assist with development & implement systems that achieve financial & sales goals of the company.
    • Develop & maintain vendor accounts & relationships
    • Manage location level bookkeeping & accounting duties including Payroll, Invoice Management, and store level vendor payments.
    • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects, people, & assignments simultaneously.
    • Develop & implement community involvement programs.
    • Work collaboratively with the Head Brewer & Company on maintaining brewery & brewing industry relationships



    Skills, Experience, Requirements:
    • 2+ yrs General Manager experience in full service, high volume restaurants with a strong bar focus.
    • Successful & verifiable history of P&L results in comparable restaurant operations.
    • Professional experience in the craft beer market.
    • Computer proficiency, including MS Word & Excel.
    • Micros or similar Point of Sale systems.
    • Functional accounting and P&L knowledge and experience.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Demonstrate ability to professionally, compassionately, & decisively handle adversity which presents itself in restaurant operations.
    • Must be willing and able to pass background checks.
    • Desired but not required:
    • - Knowledge or experience of the brewing process
    • - Cheftec or similar food costing systems is helpful.
    • - Experience with Hot Schedules systems
    • - Squarespace, Drupel, or other website systems is helpful.
    • - Experience in all social media platforms
    • - CPR & First Aid trained
