  • chiller 7.5 hp vs 10 hp

Getting close to pulling the trigger on a chiller.
I will be starting with 4x15 bbl FV, 1x15 CLT, 1x30 bbl BBT, 1x30 FV in a 15 bbl production brewery. Budget is dictating a lot, but what point would your production/added tanks
outsize a 7.5 hp pro chiller to a 10 hp pro chiller?

    thanks,
    Scott

    Hey Scott,

Definitely a tough question depending on your expansion plans and the time frame that you plan on this occurring.

If expansion is highly probable, I'd recommend that you buy the most chiller you can afford. Although with either of these options (assuming you were quoted MA series), you have the option to add expansion modules to increase your overall capacity if you outgrow- the installation costs are going to be a very significant cost that I'd definitely try to avoid.

We can run multiple different load scenarios to see how much expansion each of these two options will service, I'd be happy to run through these over the phone or you can submit from our Load Survey form on our homepage here: www.prochiller.com

Really appreciate you considering us for your project. Let me know if I can help.

      Chiller redundancy

The one critical thing that almost never seems to be considered with chiller systems is redundancy.
There is always the assumption of " one."
Having been in HVACR for close to 30 years this always mystifies me why anyone would not have one of their most critical mechanical systems without any type of backup whatsoever.
A 2 stage unit is almost always superior to a single compressor system as most can run at 50% capacity if you lose one compressor.
Its a better strategy to pipe your system so other units can be " brought on the line " if need be, and its ultra superior to have at least 2 core machines beyond a certain production.

        budget

Thanks for the answers. As a start up my budget is determining what I buy. I should have clarified that if a used chiller became available that would work as I get going, then expand/get a larger chiller. And Starcat I do understand the redundancy part of this process and am trying to fit it into my start up plans. Thanks again everyone.
