  • Perlite grades

Hey all, this is my first post, got a question about Perlite grades.

I am fairly new to learning the filtration process at our brewery, and trying to research as much as possible..would appreciate any input!!!

We use a Velo Export 10 for our beers... a porter, IPA, pale, amber, blonde, and a pilsner.

Currently, we use Celatom CP1200 grade Perlite in all of them, filtering around 40bbls at a time...half the bag, along with cellulose for the precoat. Then the remaining half bag of Perlite for dosing.

In storage, we have about a pallet's worth of Perlite bags, CP1400 grade, that we do not use. I do not know why, as the former cellarmen are long gone, and nobody else really knows why.

I see that the CP-1200 has a Permeability (Darcy) = .80 The 1400 has a Permeability (Darcy) = 1.2. And I have no idea what that means!

Looking at our core beers, is the 1400 suited for any of them? I was just told "not to use it"....but there is a decent amount just sitting there useless. I am a newbie, and would love to hear any advice!

    Thanks !!!
Working...
