  • Help with identifying a pump

below are pictures of a pump that we have laying around. does anyone know anything about it? it says 3HP we were thinking we could use it to vacuum out our mash tun. we would ideally like to use it for transferring if we could find a food grade wet end for it.

The data plate you nicely photographed is for the motor, not the pump. Are there any other identifying marks on the pump head itself?

      Food grade wet end

      Hi Tim,

I can't tell from the picture what kind of pump this is, but it looks like both the suction and discharge are on the end plate so probably it is shallow well water pump.

The motor however is a 3 HP 56C frame motor which is pretty standard and will fit one of C114MD food grade pump heads.

The C114MD pump is very common in the brewing industry. It is an all stainless steel design, has a 4" impeller, 1 1/2" tri-clamp port connections and an external mechanical seal.

They are $895.00 and we lots of them in stock.

You can see them on our website mounted on our portable carts. http://www.cpesystems.com/collection...umps-and-carts

I just noticed that the motor is for 200V, 3-phase. That might be a little hard to use here in the US, where 208/240V is the standard.

thanks guys, the pump was left behind by the previous telecommunications provider. the mystery continues, I have a plumber friend who might have some insight.

Whatever that pump turns out to be, I would strongly advise it not be used for anything product related. Maybe an HL/CL booster, but definitely not product contact.

As stated above, the CXXX series pumps are meant for sanitary use, are relatively cheap and easy to maintain (a seal replacement on a C114 takes less than 5 minutes). Besides, the external seal can be run wet or dry, and a seal washing system is an easy add-on for use with hot wort or CIP chemicals.
