  • ran root beer through soda keg...

that we usually use for beer. Was not very happy to see this but...oh well.
Changed the seals and soaked in PBW and still can't get the smell out.
    Any advice?

It is now a dedicated Root Beer keg...

I've never been able to get the smell out of a keg once it has had Root Beer in it. I've fused caustics, hot caustic, peroxyacetic acid, and nothing I've tried cuts it.

We use oxine rinse to get the smell out of the kegs... works well enough that we don't have dedicated rootbeer kegs. As a side note, it also works well on cleaning lines if one mixes up the rootbeer tap with a beer tap. Hope that helps. (we use a 100ppm rinse on the kegs, and a 150ppm rinse for cleaning lines.)
