  • Brewing System Capacity

How is the capacity for a brewing system measured? If one has a seven barrel system, is it seven barrel's of finished beer, seven barrels of wort or seven barrels pre-boil?

    Volume indication

The seven barrels refers to the amount of bitter wort you will be able to produce per batch or brew. The vessels are larger however because additional volume is needed during boiling,...
Depending on the design of the system and the familiarity of the brewer with the system sometime up to e.g. ten barrels can be brewed with a seven barrel system.

    Hope this clarifies things

      It depends

It often depends on the manufacturer of the equipment...

Sometimes equip. designers will come up with a turn-key "system" that yeilds X number of barrels of finished, saleable product... They do this to be able to sell to newbies that don't understand process losses.... kettle evap., trub, yeast dump, filtration... etc.

Other maunfacturers don't do this... I have a unitank labeled "10bbls", and it is, by god, 10 bbls.... all the way to the top... I get about 6.5 out of it because the racking port doesn't move.
