The 49th State Brewing Company is an award winning brewery with brewpubs in both Anchorage and Denali National Park, Alaska. We're immediately hiring for an assistant brewer to help meet growing production needs in both its Anchorage and Denali Park locations. The candidate would be based and live in Anchorage, but split time between the Anchorage Brewpub and Denali National Park brewpub over the winter months to assist with brewing, transferring, bottling, and cellar needs. One shift meal per day would be provided in the Anchorage location. Both room and 3 meals per day will be provided while working in the Denali Park location. Transportation between Anchorage and Denali will be provided. The initial contract would end in the spring, but the right candidate may be offered permanent employment as additional staff are added to meet increased summer demands.
Pre-requisites:
Minimum 2 years professional brewing experience. Candidates with less than 2 years experience, but with combined brewing and/or lab experience, and/or a degree or certificate from an accredited brewing school, and/or relevant awards will be considered.
Technical and practical knowledge of brewing, fermentation, and the finishing stage of beer production.
Flexibility to work varied hours and long days when production levels increase as necessary.
Excellent mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills, and understanding of mechanical systems.
The ability to work independently

The ability to lift 55 lbs above your head and the ability to work long periods on your feet, work at heights, crouch down, twist, turn, and work in extreme temperatures.
An adventurous spirt and a positive attitude!
Responsibilities include:
• Execute any and all brewery operations tasks laid out by Head Brewer and/or Lead Brewer
• Execute all stages of beer production from wort production, transferring, filtration, yeast harvesting and management, etc.
• Keg rotation, draft line cleaning and technical maintenance of draft lines
• Assist in monthly grain and keg inventories for P&L statements
• Taking of daily cellar/fermentation log readings*
• Positively and professionally represent the brewery at beer festivals, including set up and break down of equipment.
Assistant Brewer reports to the Production Manager/Head Brewer and may at times work under the supervision of the Lead Brewer.
Salary starts at $13-$15/hr DOE. Shift meals provided by the restaurant when in Anchorage. Room, board, and transportation provided when working remotely at Denali Park location.
