  • Carbonating after dosing Biofine Clear

    Hey everyone,

Messing around with Biofine Clear for the first time in a brite tank.
There are a bunch of threads on this so I apologize if this has already been covered elsewhere.
I dosed 30ml/bbl in-line during the transfer from the fermenter.
I am wondering if people generally start carbonating the beer immediately after the transfer or wait until the biofine drops the beer clear before sending co2 in through the carbonation stone.

    Thanks for your input.

I start carbing right away. Bio-fine likes to really be mixed up then settle out, my beer is usually cleared 24 post carbing. Dont forget to flush a little beer down the drain as its usually pretty cloudy

I have done it both ways but switched to carbing right away a couple years ago. Same results as beerguy1. 24 hours is usually enough.

how to put biofine in line?

Usually we put the biofine in the fermenter after we colect the yeast and wait 2-3 days and after that we filter (plate filter) to the brite to carb. How do you put the biofine in line?, How do you dosage...?
          Thanks

We're running ~15 bbl. batches. We put the Biofine (Nalco 1072 actually) into a cornie and backblend with transferring beer. Then push it with CO2 into a tee through a 1" diaphram valve. We're fining at 75 ml/bbl. based on an optimization test or two. Seems a little heavy to me but it's effective and confirmatory settling tests show nice compact bottoms.

Where in the line you insert the Cornie? If you can share the setup by photo or descrbie will be great.
              Cheers!

Don't have a drawing or sketch handy right now so let's try this:

                Source tank >
                Racking Arm >
                sight glass >
Tee < Diaphragm valve < Vinyl hose < Cornie Keg w/Nalco 1072 mixed w/40# beer < CO2 tank to push fining mixture
                Hose to receiving tank

I'll see if I can dig up a photo.
