  • Head Brewer Position

    E.J. Phair Brewing Company is looking for a Head Brewer to run our production/pub facility in Pittsburg California. Someone with a strong work ethic, a passion for beer and the brewing process would be a good fit. Having at least 3-4 years of commercial brewing experience would be ideal. The job would include all aspects of beer production including packaging. We are looking for a motivated individual that is a self starter and works well with others. The job is a full time position that does include overseeing and scheduling for existing assistant brewers. The brewery has been around since 2000 and started as a production only facility. We currently have a restaurant in Concord as well as our main facility in Pittsburg. We are also under construction for a new restaurant in Alamo as well. The Pittsburg location is a historic 14,000 sqft. building which is primarily a production brewery but we do have a restaurant inside the brewery serving wood fired pizza, panini’s and salads. We are currently brewing on a 30bbl brew house with both 30 and 60bbl fermenters. We produce approximately 3000bbls a year producing mainly our house beers and some contract brewing as well,


    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    All Aspects of wort production:
    Lifting 50 lb. bags of grain on a routine basis, and milling.
    Weighing out grain, hops, and other adjuncts for brews, when needed.
    Tank cleaning: this includes caustic and acid cleaning, sanitation and CO2 purge, when necessary.
    Fermentation log completion and monitoring of said fermentations, and all tasks associated with it (cap, DH, Trub, Yeast harvesting, changing temperature set points etc.)
    Keg cleaning and racking of finished beer.
    Scheduling and overseeing bottling/canning operations.
    Participation and overseeing general plant cleanliness. (e.g., power washing the floors, cleaning the outside of the tanks, sweeping up the grain room, etc.)
    Cellar transfers and filtrations.
    Preparing beer for packaging.
    Awareness of maintaining cold box inventory in an organized fashion
    Attending events, such as festivals, beer dinners and other promotional events on an as-needed basis.
    All scheduling for brewing both house and contract brews and overall operations
    Responsible for scheduling and overseeing cellerman and assistant brewers
    Passion for the craft and making fantastic beer!

    The position will be a full-time position with salary depending on experience
