  • Regulations regarding Oxygen Tanks

Does anyone know if there are specific regulations regarding placement and storage of oxygen tanks? I think I read in OSHA about them being at least 20 feet from an ignition source, but I was wondering if they need to be a specific distance customer seating.

I believe there is an exemption from OSHA if you have only a few (<10?) employees. Contact your state's OSHA department for specifics. Oxygen is not flammable, but does accelerate combustion. Use only fittings/regulators that are cleaned specifically for oxygen. Use a chain or strap to secure the cylinder to a wall. Keep a protective bonnet over the valve when the cylinder is not in use. Otherwise, I don't think you have a problem with distance to smoking customers.

Talk to your local fire marshall, who SHOULD be a regular at your establishment. I've never had to place mine near any type of ignition source. My fire marshall usually just checks to see if they are chained down properly.
