  • Instant Hot for Hot Liquor

Any information on using a Heat Exchanger for Instant Hot would be helpful.

We are running a 20BBL DME and mash in with anywhere between 300gal. to 450 gal. at 155 - 165F. We also hope to use instant hot for sparge. We do have a HLT for now but wish to move to instant hot at some point soon. I would rather use that foot print for a settling whirl pool tank!

Our town water is pretty chilly most of the year with a few months of just slightly chilly.

    Heat Exchanger size?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers and back to my Pale Ale

One other thing... our boiler is plenty big enough, and I have piping we can work off of.

I would use a brazed heat ex, they are less expensive than the normal ones, the only problem is they arent dismantable but you shouldnt need to. Our Pasteurizer uses one to heat the water with steam.

I was also looking at this type I havent seen it in use but it looks and sounds like it would be effective- http://www.heatexchangersonline.com/shellandcoil.htm

Only a commercial rated one will get hot enough. Figure temp rise based on your coldest water. They are rated at gpm @ a give temp rise. May likely need multiple in parallel.
