I am an MBA student at Bainbridge Graduate Institute and am working on a research project - our team chose to write a market analysis on the craft brew industry and would like to focus on the Pacific Northwest, if we can get the data (else craft brew in the U.S. will work). We would also (time permitting) like to review business startup alternatives in the craft beer industry - ex. starting with only a tasting room and expanding to brew pub or starting with full brewery and distributing, or even partnering with restaurant to start with contract brewing, etc.
Our research question is:
What is the market for craft beer in the Pacific Northwest, and what are the most efficient start-up business models?
So far, we're having a hard time getting the info we need. We did get a 2007 report written by Data Monitor for the US beer industry in general, but it focuses more on large breweries.
We hope to be able to produce a paper that is worthy of sharing.
Thanks for any and all help!
Maria

- Can anyone point us to specific sources that can help us figure out the current market?
- What specific pieces of data do you think would help us answer our question?
- Would any of you who are brewery managers/owners be willing to be interviewed to help us collect data?
