          Howdy all,
Sorry for the stupid delay in posting this info. I have no excuse.

I did not get a heck of a lot of feedback on what people are being paid but to those that did respond, Thank You.

          Here is a breakdown:

Annual Production 500-1000 bbls: Head Brewer wage= 23k-38k
          Asst. Brewer wage=19k

Annual Production 1000-2000 bbls: Head Brewer wage= 38k-60k
          Asst. Brewer wage= 28k-34k

Annual Production 20000 bbls: Head Brewer wage= 42k

The average Head Brewer wage from my small data set is $43616.00 and the Asst. Brewer average is $24016.00.
I know these numbers seem kinda' all over that map and don't totally jive with production increase but this is what I found.

From an old New Brewer issue (2006), their survey found the Head Brewer's average wage was 38k (500-1000bbl), 43k (1000-2000) and Asst. Brewer's $10/hr (500-1000bbl), $12/hr (1000-2000bbl). These figures are, of course, four years old and they were for brewpubs.

I'd love to hear more current numbers.

          Prost!

              Thanks!

Thanks for the info, If you find anything more current I would appreciate sharing. I'm currently putting together my business plan and feel like help is without question so I needed to know some pay ranges to consider.

                Re: Brewery Workers Pay Rates

A company I worked with a few years ago participated in a survey administered by the Mountain States Employers Council (http://www.msec.org/). 15 or so breweries from around the country got together to anonymously have a survey taken of employee pay by position with complete job description and brewery size.

You might be able to purchase the survey. Not sure. I know all of the participating breweries paid for a portion of the survey/project. I think someone from New Belgium's HR department was heading up the project. Seemed as if they were doing it every few years.

You could contact MSEC for info or try the New Belgium HR dept to see about getting involved.

                Cheers,
                Larry

Hey, I like reading things. If someone still has it and would like to share, my e-mail is grillenbrewing at gmail dot com.

Otherwise, I think this information might be included in the BA resource directory, right? I figured I'd ask before shelling out that kind of change for a book (before I've even finished writing a business plan).

What is the average salary of a brewer in a production brewery with 2,000-5,000 barrels per year?

All of this information is available to BA members. If you aren't a BA member, your brewery really should sign up.

If you are an employee of a brewery/brewpub, ask the owner for the login information. There is a wealth of information available from the BA...

in addition to base pay, can anyone out there comment on if and how they have structured bonuses and/or production incentives for head brewers? For instance, sharing a fixed percentage of gross distribution revenue, or a fixed bonus for hitting a quarterly/annual production target? Any input would be helpful. Cheers!

After unsuccessful searches of the forum and already contacting the BA, is anyone willing to share with me (anonymous via PM) wages/salaries for the following positions in a 1500bbl/year packaging brewery:
                              -Head Brewer
                              -Head Cellar
                              -Packaging Lead
                              -Inventory Manager
                              -Brewery Manager
                              -Compliance Officer

I know some (or all) of these positions can overlap but it has been quite awhile since these have been reevaluated and ANY input is greatly appreciated. If there is an interest, I'd be willing to share any data I get, minus personal details, with the rest of the forum.

                              Prost!
                              Dave
Maybe I missed something, but why do you need all that staff for 1,500BBL/yr production? Is that a typo and you are producing 15,000BBL/yr.? And on a side note, the average salary for a head brewer will also be impacted by location of said brewery. In some states, you can get away with less, in others you need more. But really, for 1,500 BBLs/yr, you only really need a brewer, maybe an ass. brewer or cellarman.
