Star San. Now adding more text to make message long enough to post.

We use Star-San. If it's below 3.5pH it'll kill up to 99% in 30 seconds, according to former owner Charlie Talley.

A word about Chlorine Dioxide as a spray. It kills at about 8 ppm w/ aprox 3-5 min contact time. If using as spray on application, it was recommended to us to use as twice that rate.

I use star-san in the spray bottle. It does double duty since it foams up when you are looking for leaks in the co2 system.

              Paa

I can't believe people are using PAA in bottles. I tried that and it was painful! It's making my eyes hurt just thinking about it.

                Can't imagine using anything else.

                  Paa

PAA at no-rinse concentration is actually pretty benign. Not sure why more people not using it.

I thought PAA and chlorine dioxide only had about an 8 hour shelf life? Thats why I never consider them for the spray bottle though I use both for tanks.

alpet D2 surface sanitizer is by far the best sanitizer for sterile sample taking. you should be able to get it from your regular chemical provider. i've had 7 years of successful sterile sampling in the dirtiest of breweries by using alpet. its safe non rinse, and i never use a propane torch to light it up.

Well said Brian. Welcome to the forum.

Iodophor is my choice. Mixed halogen actually.

Liam, doesn't iodophor "expire" after a while the way some of the other ones do? I go the anionic route for that reason.

                              It does.

As Brian mentioned, the test kits are your friends.

He also mentioned the wild yeast thing.

I'm pretty paranoid about those wee beasties after losing a tank of beer 14 years ago.

While I use PAA for sanitizing my tanks and HX, I use StarSan in my stray bottles. The foaming action and adhesion are great for sanitizing fittings and any exposed parts, such as sample vavles IMO.
