  • new cement floor help

we just had 4-5 inches of concrete poured with grade for our new space with a 5 inch high x 5 wide burm around the complete area. its floating on existing concrete with a sand base pitching to 3 floor drains (we could not do trench because of the warehouse space basement below)

they came and cut stress joints about 1 inch deep for cracking (like basement style). so now what do we do??? anyone have suggestions as to what to fill these joints with as well as the edge between the burm and new floor?

also sealing it or just leave it concrete we are tidy brewers (well best you can be)

just poured two days ago so its got some cure time ahead of it and we are on an extremely taxed startup budget at this point.

    thanks in advance

We filled our joints with anchor bolt cement. It mixes with water and dries pretty fast and can be found at most hardware stores. You just mix the powder with water and poiur it in the cracks, then sand it smooth. We put a clear sealer over that and it seems to be holding up pretty well.

Also, for more money, you can get an epoxy form of the same stuff.

Are you worried about leakage into the warehouse below? Are you looking to seal the floor? How long did the contractor say it would take the floor to cure?

Kind of stuff I would want to know.....

not possible to get to basement. concern is 1 inch deep stress cuts filled with water just sitting. cure time like 10 days.

were open to sealing yes but again were looking for thoughts on leaving it raw cement - box store availability and cost only for sealers

        thanks

How fast do you want the concrete to turn back into the aggregate it was made from? Without a coating of some sort beer itself along with cleaners will destroy it in short order.

You can leave the "expansion" joints as is, or If you do fill them, make sure the compound is flexible. There are plenty of caulking compunds available for this. Check your local hardware. Either way, I would recommend as least a sealer for the concrete floor.

Don't use silicone-based sealants or caulks. They won't stick to concrete.

were using sl1 (self leveling) for the gaps and then sealing the floor 30 days after a full cure. thanks for the help.
