  • Wattage calculator anyone?

I am having a 7 bbl brewhouse fabricated locally. I am going to build a RIMS/HERMS. I only have single phase 230V available to me, but I have propane - lots of it, cheap. I want to use a propane burner to bring the HLT up to temperature, and an electric element to maintain/fine tune it. I found a calculator on line that indicated 3000 watts to 4500 watts would be able to hold 200 gallons of liquid at temperature of 170 deg F in a tank that had a 95% heat retention capability. I am looking for confirmation, and/or another source of information. Anyone have experience in this area? Thanks!

Without going into the calculations, 4,500 watts will work. Good luck.
