Or simply reformat the picture to a smaller size. Easy-peasy. Most times we don't need incredible high resolutions pictures. Also don't have to deal with registering and spam.
So I often see people mention that they can't post the pics they have because they're too large for the forums. A lot of forums don't want to host pictures (this is one) because they take up so much disk space and bandwidth. This makes sense especially when there are so many free image hosting sites out there. I wanted to show a quick howto on hosting an image on Flickr, my preferred site. (I don't use it a ton, but have in the past and its really easy).
I first had to create an account, which is pretty straightforward. After account creation, upload the files by finding them on your computer and uploading with their tools. They have HOWTO's I'm sure if you're having problems with that.
Once they are uploaded, you'll need to make sure permissions are wide open. Once you create an album in their tools for this purpose (maybe just call it "public") go to Batch Edit menu above the album images and select "Change Permissions". Then make sure this album's permissions are set to "Public". (that way you can also upload those debauched nights into a private folder and not let everyone see them.).
Once permissions are fixed, go to your "Photostream" which shows you your photo's and click a specific image you want to share. In the top area above the picture are some links for Facebook, Twitter, and email, but next to that is a dropdown menu, click it, and choose the "Grab the link" or "Grab the HTML/BBCode" option, and then select the radio button for BBcode, BBCode is best here it seems, but links work too if you click the "insert link" button here in the probrewer post reply/new thread tools and paste the link from the "Grab the Link" option. This is what mine is for a test:

This is the bbcode above and below is the html:

If you note you can choose, in the Flickr tool, the size of the image you want to show, I did medium on the first(BBCode). (no choice on "Grab the Link" mode with the above example.
This is the general process with any image site, but should allow you to post images easily. Please let me know if this is unclear, hard to understand or totally worthless. I'm an IT guy so I know it and can usually explain it pretty well.
If others want me to extend this post to show other sites, I can do so, picasa etc. but I thought one would be a good starting point.

Understood, but some people don't understand how to do either, so I'm giving them a step by step on how to do one of them. Either way definitely works.

Thanks Phil!

Not shut down all images, you just can't use 'bbcode' as the method you'll need the full link. I noted in your tests to picasa they were clickable. That shoudl be fine for most people. Inline images, if not originating from this site, I think are also disabled, People don't mind clicking out to an external site though to view photos of things.

Thanks for the help. How do I post inline images originating from this site? I've seen some postings with them and others with just the links. I would greatly prefer the inline images.Originally Posted by Pompeiisneaks
