  • Erosion type DE filter information

I am a startup that has experience running a DE filter with a dosing tank and dosing pump that has just ran across an erosion type DE filter. I have never even heard of these, much less ran one and have a few questions.
    1. Do these types of filters have any common blowby issues?
    2. Are the flow rates good enough to filter 50 barrels in a few hours?
    3. How easy are they to CIP in comparison to a DE filter with a dosing tank and dosing pump?
    4. Is filtering under pressure going to be an issue with this style of DE filter?
    5. Are there still replacment parts out for these types of filters?
    6. Is there someone running one in the northwest I could come and watch?

    Cheers,

Erosion filters are very common. The only difference between what you're used to and this one is that the DE is not pumped via a dosing pump, but rather a side stream of the main beer pump is used to agitate the DE and dose your beer stream. Otherwise, same thing. There is still a dosing tank; just not a dosing pump. So to answer your questions:
    1)No
    2)Yes
3)Maybe even easier to clean as there is no second pump.
    4)No
    5)Yes
6)Is Palau west enough for you?

      Not that I'm aware of
      2. Are the flow rates good enough to filter 50 barrels in a few hours?
That will depend more on the size of the filter area than the different dosing style, although adding more DE to the dosing tank is slightly more difficult.
      3. How easy are they to CIP in comparison to a DE filter with a dosing tank and dosing pump?
      Easer if anything.
      4. Is filtering under pressure going to be an issue with this style of DE filter?
      Nope
      5. Are there still replacment parts out for these types of filters?
Depends entirely on the unit you have
      6. Is there someone running one in the northwest I could come and watch?
      That I don't know
