  • Top Cropping w/ Peristaltic Pump

This post may be better suited to the yeast page, but I'll try it out here first.

I'm planning on using a peristaltic pump to pull my krausen into a sanitary container for yeast storage. I'll pull the yeast from the dry hop port on the top of the CCFV, and pump it into either impact-resistant plastic or stainless steel that has some sterile water in it.

I'd like to know if anybody has any thoughts on the subject.

    Thanks,
    Bill

Peristaltics will have difficulty sucking due to the gas breakout. If the yeast flows into a hopper above the pump, with a very short infeed, I think you MIGHT get away with it.

Unfortunately for this response, my only experience of top cropping is into a vacuum tank, and persitaltics with bottom cropping yeast from conicals, so am also interested if someone has had success with peristaltics and top cropping yeast

Rotary lobe pump works pretty well for top cropping.
