    PA distance law

For PA brewers or those familiar with the PA laws. I've read info that there is a law on the books that a brewery cannot be 300 ft from a church or school. Is this the case, or am I misinterpretting the law? It seems like an odd law considering 300 ft is not OK, but 301 is OK, then again this is PA and there are some strange laws. TIA.

I know Utah has a similar law, I've seen it, something more like 1000 ft I think. Its so that the brewery can't influence schools negatively, I guess, and make kids want to drink, and to not offend religious types that could be anti drinking. That's my take on it anyway.

We have a very similar law in Montana. Even more funny when you consider how many "church/monasteries" had breweries within their own walls!
Gotta keep the evil breweries away from the pure children and holy doctrines. Or is it the other way around?

    Prost!

One of my problems is that with the small towns in our area, if you spit you will hit a church, or a school. That takes your location out of town, which is really where you want to be because that is where the people are.

The other issue, is that I know of places where there are bars, right across the street from a school, so how will a brewery in that location hurt the school any more. BUT, the law is the law. If the bar was there before the school, well, then they have the right to be there, but a new place cannot.

So, my issue, you find the perfect location at the right price, then find out you are 299 ft from the nearest church!

My goal here is to see some PA brewers chime in and tell me what they know of the law, and if it really is a law, are there ways around it or am I stuck to keep looking?
