    Label Graphics help

We have hi res .ai files of our label artwork. We have run into a problem with some local graphcis people taking that image and and shrinking it down to the size needed for the labels. Itis not an issue of the images not scaling down, we are told that our labels are done in four colors, and that they can only work in three. Can anyone help us out?

    Thanks,

Hmmm..... If its 3 color press, that means your artwork needs to be redesigned for 3 colors.

If your .ai file contains raster art (pictures, scanned in items)unlees they are converted to halftone image and printed in one of the darker colors you choose and printed over the label material you probably cant use it as is.

If you look at a newspaper picture with a magnifying glass you can see what a halftone looks like....lots of little dots of varies sizes giving you the alusion of gradation.

I would think the printer would know this and be able to explain it to you. Your designer(s) should be able to figure this out too.

What Sauce said is right. Your printer is printing with three spot colors. Your files are set up to print in cmyk, which would require 4 inks. Do you have a photo in the file? If yes, it would need converted to a single spot color instead of a color photo. It sounds like your printer doesn't have a 4 color press. It would be easier to guide you if you posted a photo.
