    Mystery Kettle

My friend just got this into her shop today. Anyone know what this was originally used for and is it salvagable for anything other than a decoration?

Unless that is jacketed, I'd guess it was a piece of distillery equipment instead of brewery equipment.

What is the volume, and other than the visible valve, what characteristics does it have?

I might add that I might be interested in acquiring that vessel...

I'd guess it's about 15 gallons. Not insulated.

Looks like a boiler, probably for moonshine.

Probably an antique one of these: http://www.ebrewcraft.co.nz/shop/Har...+Elements.html

Copper is always salvageable! Looks gorgeous to me. Bring it on down to CA and I'll take it off your hands

Yeah? Betcha that's a tank for feints. That's why there's a lid, and no scorch marks on the bottom.

    PM me with a price....

I had to look it up, never heard of feints:

    3. Feints. Towards the end of the run further compounds, long chain alcohols and fusel oils, creep into the distillate. In high concentration these have an unpleasant flavour.

Just like brewing, distilling has a lot of jargon!
