    Does anyone know where I can find the formula to calculate the amount of heat a fermentation will produce based on density of the wort and volume. This can then be used to determine the cooling capacity needed to keep the fermentation in check. I know I have it, but can't find it in my notes anywhere.

    This came from my edition of "The Practical Brewer"...........

    550 BTU / Bbl / hr

    For every barrel of fermenting wort / beer, it generates 550 BTUs per hour. This is at high kreausen, of course. I've used it for chiller circuit design and faired OK.

      out of curiosity I tried to do a search and see if someone could have found this and I had no luck with pb.com or google's search engine, even searching with the original title of "Chiller calculations" did not work. Disappointing. Will post this observation to the forum feedback.
