  • plastic grist case

I am thinking about buying a plastic "grist case" that has a metal cradle and legs. It holds around 1500 pounds of malt. I will auger milled grain into the top and auger the grain out the bottom into the mash tun.

Can anyone think of any drawbacks to using plastic? I have never seen any thing like this used before, but the price is much cheaper than stainless.

    thanks

You may have a serious problem of magnets not sticking well to the plastic and a nagging sense of extra cash in your pocket.

I think plastic is a great idea. If you can raise the case above the mash tun, all the better. No second auger to break down half way through mashing in. Gravity always works. Good luck! Cheers.

I second the idea of raising the grist case if you can - we have suspended ours from the roof right above the mash tun with a slide gate at the bottom of the cone and hydrator underneath (per the original design from Newlands) ... it works the treat!
