  • cross-contamination?

Has anyone heard of a brew being contaminated by fruit flies. I think the yeast was somehow crossed by the flies. My ale tastes like lager. Is this possible?Rookie needs help..Thanks in advance.

I've brewed lots of ales that tasted like lagers. Sometimes even on purpose!

I'd think it's much more likely that your yeast has mutated a little bit...

    Cheers, Tim

Fruit flies are aerobic; your beer is anaerobic.
So, fruit flies don't change the flavor of your beer.
How do the flies got in your yeast?

Fruit Flies generally carry an Acetobacter that starts turning the alcohol to vinegar. However, in a closed fermenter and conventional brewing practices, they shouldn't have gotten in there.

Just like Tim, I've intentionally brewed beers to simulate lager taste profiles.
