Packaging Manager
Job Summary: Packaging Manager is a supervisory and salaried position responsible for the daily operational duties within the cellar and packaging departments. Packaging Manager requires abilities of leadership and “hands-on” aptitudes in the brewery at all times to ensure that cellaring and packaging operations remain on schedule and are executed using proper SOPs and sanitation practices. This position reports directly to the Brewmaster.

• Mechanical Aptitude—the individual possesses a solid mechanical-based skill set for both systems, processes and tools.
• Problem Solving—the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
• Employee Focus—the individual manages difficult employee/operational situations, responds promptly to employee needs, solicits employee feedback to improve service, responds to requests for service and assistance and meets commitments.
• Planning/Organizing—the individual prioritizes and plans work activities and uses time efficiently.
• Quality Control—the individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, monitors own work to ensure quality and applies feedback to improve performance.
• Quantity—meets productivity standards and completes work in a timely and efficient manner.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
Minimum of 21 years of age and 2 years experience in Beverage Packaging and Mechanical Systems, Packaging Technology or similar technical relevant work experience. The candidate should possess a strong understanding of all areas of safety and packaging standards. Additionally, the candidate should have a strong skill set related to and cognition of mechanical, electrical and industrial systems. Must be self-motivated, have excellent written skills, verbal communication, strong leadership skills.
Candidate must be able to work under stressful situations unique to the manufacturing/production environment of a fast-paced brewery. This position also requires excellent time management skills as well as very strong analytical and problem solving skills. Candidates must be proficient in MS Office software including Excel and Word. We will all be learning how to use EKOS Brewmaster Brewery Management Software. Experience with EKOS is an added bonus but is not required.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience as a Packaging Technician or Packaging Manager. Preference given to applicants who have completed Brewery Packaging Technology coursework through the Master Brewer’s Association but not at all a requirement.

Essential Job Functions:
- Requires maintaining a safe and secure working environment within the packaging department at all times. Continually evaluates and updates packaging SOP’s and standards of excellence regarding safety and production.
- Ability to create and accurately follow SOP’s and understanding of specific beer process terminologies.
- Displays effective communication & leadership skills on a daily basis with all employees, management, customers, guests, and vendors.
- Operate both manual and computer automated process equipment while maintaining quality standards.
- Ability to operate and maintain bottling and canning line equipment including automated de-palletizer, twist rinsers, can seamer, pack-off conveyors, bottle and can rinsers and dryer, automated date coder, labeler, among others.
- Experience operating and maintaining a Wild Goose Can filler is preferred. We are installing the WG 600. A fully automated dual 4head double seamer capable of 80 CPM
- Ability to operate and maintain a Premier semi-auto keg washer
- Assist the Brewmaster with proactive scheduling needs for efficient and effective production.
- Follows environmental and safety regulations and the associated SOPs
- Acts in compliance with US laws and accepted business ethics with personal and others’ safety, conservation and process efficiency in mind.
- Must be able and willing to work a variable shift schedule that is dependent upon the operational needs of the brewery. Must be willing to be on call in the event of equipment failure or staffing production needs. Night shifts and weekend shifts may be required due to variations in production scheduling and maintenance for equipment.
- Must demonstrate a professional and engaging demeanor at all times and treat every employee, customer, vendor, and/or client with dignity and respect in all interactions.
- Able to perform any and all required maintenance on Packaging equipment and other brewery equipment.
- Performs weekly and monthly inventory audits and reconciliation of overages/shortages of materials and parts.
- Ability to frequently be actively and effectively performing tasks, twist, stoop, dance, laugh, crouch, stand, sit, try to reach something that’s hard to reach, walk, taste beer for QA, make good decisions, use a wrench, turn a gate valve, stand on feet for 8-12+ hour shifts and have a good time doing it. Must be able to lift 55lbs and repeatedly maneuver up to 175lb kegs.
- Willingness to perform many other duties as needed, desired and assigned.
