    Brewer/Production Crew Position at Urban South Brewery in New Orleans

    We are a rapidly growing production brewery and taproom in New Orleans. We brew on a two-vessel, 30bbl Newlands brewhouse for packaging into kegs and 12-oz cans. We will soon add a four-vessel 7bbl brewhouse for pilot brews and taproom sales.

    We need someone who is technically-savvy with a high degree of creativity and personality. Prior industry experience is a must. This is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of New Orleans’ third production craft brewery in a state with the second-lowest number of breweries per capita in the U.S. The ideal candidate will bring an understanding of and appreciation for southern culture and cuisine and a sense of humor. Start date is flexible.

    Scope of Responsibility
    • Works in partnership with the brewmaster and senior management to maintain the company’s vision and culture
    • Participates in all aspects of brewing operations, including, but not limited to:
    o recipe and new product development
    o inventory management
    o wort production
    o yeast handling, pitching, fermentation, racking
    o packaging (canning line)
    o cleaning/sanitizing, etc.
    • Participates in brewery tours, taproom events, and other promotions/marketing

    Ideal Qualifications
    • 4+ years of commercial brewing experience (15bbl brewhouse or larger + packaging)
    • Experience producing barrel-aged and sour beer
    • Experience developing and brewing first-rate American craft beer, including experience with newer yeast and hop varieties
    • Strong technical brewing background with degree from reputable brewing program and/or a degree in science or engineering
    • Strong mechanical background, including troubleshooting ability and equipment operation experience
    • Willingness to work hard in a fast-paced environment with high volume growth potential
    • Strong communication skills
    • Team-oriented
    • High degree of intellectual curiosity and desire to learn
    • Strong physical ability – able to frequently lift 55# grain bags and service equipment, sometimes requiring bending, reaching, crouching, crawling
