How to use DME filter?

I bought some used equipment about a year ago and it came with a DME filter. I have brewed several batches on this system and still have the filter in storage. I have never used a filter like this before and was wondering how to use one. Can someone try and explain to me the process? Or point me in the right direction. Thanks
