  • Spray Painting Brewery Name on Kegs

    Hi everyone,
Maybe a dumb question, but is there a problem with spray painting our brewery's name on our kegs? I see many suppliers offering silk screening and etching and whatnot. Can I just simply spray paint our names on using a stencil? Thanks for any advice.

Get some good-quality stencils made and practice with them first, maybe on a bent keg. using a stencil and getting a good-looking product requires a touch, but you'll get it figured out.

You'll want a high-quality direct-to-metal paint. Rustoleum makes some, as do other brands. The keg MUST BE CLEAN--clean clean clean. No fingerprints, even. It should not be too highly polished in the area you wish to paint, as the paint will adhere better with some roughness--what painters call "tooth".

One you've hand-stencil painted a hundred or more kegs you'll begin to appreciate the low cost of having it done professionally.

Some suppliers sell vinyl banding with your brewery name on it. That's what we did to identify our kegs from a distance. It holds up really well.

Yes, just get or make a stencil, buy some quality metam spray paint and go to town. Keep in mind your audience: you want to primarily make sure your kegs get back to your brewery from accounts and distributors. Make your brand big, unique, and bright.

            Prost!
