We have successfully completed our first full year in a custom 18,000 sq. ft. brewing facility, and both the tap room and wholesale sales are brisk.     Position Title: General Manager
    Reports to: President/Board of Managers
    Reporting to this position: Accountant, TapHouse Manager, Sales Manager and Head Brewer

    Job Summary

    The General Manager serves as head of all operations of Missoula Brewing Company (MBC) and, in partnership with the Board of Managers (the Board), is responsible for the success of MBC. Together, the Board and General Manager assure the accomplishment of MBC’s strategic vision.
    The Board delegates responsibility for management and day-to-day operations to the General Manager, and s/he has the authority to carry out these responsibilities, in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board.
    Responsibilities

    1. Legal Compliance

    Assures the filing of all legal and regulatory documents and monitors compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
    2. Strategy and Vision

    Helps the Board determine MBC’s company values, mission, vision, and short and long-term goals.
    Maintains awareness of both the internal and external competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, customers, markets, new industry standards and developments.
    Keeps the Board fully informed on the overall condition of MBC and on the important factors influencing the company’s vision and performance.
    Identifies problems and opportunities and addresses them; brings those which are appropriate to the Board; and, facilitates discussion and decision making.

    Informs the Board about trends, issues, problems and activities in order to improve company performance.
    3. Management and Administration

    a) Provides general oversight of all MBC activities to assure a smoothly functioning, efficient business.
    b) Assures product quality and company stability through development and implementation of standards and controls, systems and procedures, and regular evaluation.
    c) Builds a company culture that recruits, retains and supports quality staff in a relaxed but professional atmosphere. Assures processes for selecting, developing, motivating, and evaluating staff.
    d) Suggests staffing to the Board, and in accordance with agreed upon recommendations, recruits personnel, negotiates professional contracts, and sees that appropriate salary structures are developed and maintained.
    e) Specifies responsibilities for management staff and evaluates performance regularly.

    4. Product Development and Service Delivery

    a) Oversees the design, marketing and promotion of quality products and delivery of exceptional services.
    b) Makes recommendations for what new products to introduce and what markets to enter to expand the company’s growth into other Montana and nationwide areas.
    c) Meets with and forms partnerships with distributors and retailers to enhance product sales.
    d) Evaluates competitors and determines how MBC will differentiate itself in the marketplace.

    5. Financial Management

    a) Oversees the financial activities of the company including, but not limited to budget preparation that supports company strategy and analysis of financial performance.
    b) Manages company resources within budget guidelines.
    c) Works with Board to ensure operations support short and long-term goals.

    6. Sales and Marketing

    a) Oversees all sales and marketing efforts of MBC including but not limited to Distributor relationships, retailer relationships and promotion and all marketing and social media plans and programs.
    b) Manages full and part-time salespeople and brand ambassadors

    Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

    At times, this may be a high-stress position based on the full responsibility for MBC operations. Handles detailed, complex concepts and problems, balances multiple tasks simultaneously, and makes rapid decisions regarding administrative issues.
    Plans and implements company growth and market strategy. Establishes constructive and appropriate relationships with the Board, distributors, customers, consultants, employees, competitors, and brewing industry associations.
    Plans and meets deadlines. Maintains a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of executive management. Hours may be long and irregular.
    Conveys a professional and positive image and attitude regarding MBC. Demonstrates commitment to continued professional growth and development.

    Qualifications:

    A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the brewing or consumer product industry with at least 1 of those years in a management position. This individual demonstrates critical competencies in three broad categories: commitment to results, business savvy and leadership and growth management.
    Must pass background, fingerprint check and be approved by MT Dept. of Revenue to be GM of brewery.
    Commitment to results: The GM is a systems thinker who is customer focused and goal driven. This individual is action oriented and innovative. S/he translates broad goals into achievable steps. S/he anticipates and solves problems and takes advantage of opportunities, is a self-starter and team player.

    Business savvy: As MBC’s leader, this position requires an individual with knowledge of and experience in the management and administration of the brewing industry. The position requires demonstrated experience in integrating and coordinating diverse areas of management including taproom and kitchen management, beer production and distribution activities, finance and personnel; oral and written communications; planning and evaluation.

    Leadership and Growth Management: The GM possesses the skills and implements the functions of a leader. S/he shares MBC’s values, mission and vision and knows how to influence and enable others. S/he consistently displays integrity, models behavior, develops people, and builds teams. This individual deals effectively with demanding situations and designs and implements strategies to deal with company growth into new products and markets.
