Gypsy Circus Cider Company is looking for a Lead Cider Maker

The Lead Cider Maker is responsible for overseeing and assisting with the day-to-day production of cider. This position is responsible for maintaining product quality, unique and local blends and consistency. The Cider Maker will work closely with the Head Cider Maker to meet Company objectives and goals. The Cider Maker is expected to be punctual and self-motivated, and have the ability to travel to Kingsport TN.

Primary Purpose of Role:

To support the Head Cider Makers; in ensuring efficient and high quality manufacture of Gypsy Circus' range of products, from apple pressing through to final blending, bottling and canning;
To act as an effective back up to the Head Cider Makers;
To assist where required in promoting our ciders in store, and at trade and public festivals

Key Responsibilities:

Kegging and Bottling:

To assist with production duties when and where required;
To actively seek opportunities as they arise to learn from management and Head Cider Maker in regards to production activities and maintenance duties;
Ensuring that all products produced meet the set quality procedures and specifications;

Day to Day Duties will include, but not restricted to:

Yeast inoculation and fermentation;
Monitoring and controlling fermentation;
Racking and quality control during bulk storage;
Sensory evaluation of products prior to, and during bottling/canning/kegging;
Blending, filtration, and bottling;
Laboratory testing at all stages;
Ensuring cidery and all equipment are hygienic;
Record keeping and planning;

Health & Safety:

Foster a safe working environment and ensure that at all times you and those around you comply with all Gypsy Circus health, safety and environmental regulations, and policies;
Promote the use and revision of our existing Health and Safety program;
Ability to identify potential hazards that need to be registered;

Flexibility:

The tasks above will remain your core responsibilities from time to time, you will be required to assist in other areas of the Company’s business;

Prerequisites:

High School diploma including computer competency and effective written communication;
Clean and valid driver’s license;
Ability to work rotating shifts and adjust schedule to meet production demands;
Ability to work both independently and with a team;
Mechanical aptitude and creativity;
Involves frequent walking, lifting, and carrying objects weighing 50lbs routinely;

Skills and Experience:
Successful science coursework and understanding of basic chemical and microbiological processes relevant to cider making;
Minimum 1 year of hands on experience in cider, beer or wine production;
Knowledge of sanitation principles and practices;
Tasting experience and understanding of flavors and balance;
Physical capability to execute production processes;
Attention to detail to monitor ciders, control costs and keep inventory counts accurate;
Organization skills to manage production processes according to plans and goals;
Analytical skills to create successful plans, and to identify and solve problems along the way (knowledge of Excel is a plus, as well as the proactive use of scientific and expert resources);
