  • Brewer Needed In Oklahoma City at Stonecloud Brewing

Stonecloud Brewing Company is seeking an experienced brewer to join our ranks to help with the start-up process and brew once we are open. We are a brand new brewery in Oklahoma City and are just putting the finishing touches on the ground-up renovation of an amazing 90 year old brick building. We will be brewing on a new 30 bbl. system and will sell beer onsite in our tap room (19 taps) as well as distribute cans, bottles, and kegs. We’ll be focusing on highly hopped beers, sours, barrel aged beers, and anything else that tickles our fancy. The only rule is no boring beer. Quality and consistency are the two driving forces behind our beer, and our quality control program will set us apart from the beginning. Stonecloud is owned and operated by a brewer with 10 years professional experience. No corporate overlords here!

The ideal candidate will help with the installation of equipment as we get closer to opening, test brew pilot batches for recipe formulation, and brew and package once we are open. We are a start-up so flexibility will be absolutely key. Brewing will be only one of many responsibilities. Occasional late nights and weekends will happen. You will be asked to fill in at the tap room and serve at festivals occasionally.

Pay will depend on experience, but we will absolutely offer a very competitive pay and benefits package. We will have a very lenient free beer policy. We are aiming for a late spring/early summer opening date.

    Job Duties:
-Install brewing equipment before we open (position fermenters, hook up glycol, help with tap room finishes, install walk in cooler, solder copper, basic woodworking, anything else required, etc)
-Beer production from raw grain through the packaged product. Daily duties will include (but not limited to) grinding malt, wort production, tank cleaning, cleaning/filling kegs, general cleaning, beer filtration, daily QC checks, taking lab samples, beer carbonation, manage and pitch yeast, canning, bottling, shipping, equipment maintenance. Did I mention cleaning?
-Help run our barrel aging program including filling, emptying, barrel tracking, blending, taste testing, and basic coopering.
-Run QC tests on beer using basic lab skills and sensory analysis. Our beers will have extremely strict QC standards which the applicant will need to adhere to.
-Be intimately familiar with all our beers.
-Brew test batches on our 1 bbl. pilot system and help with recipe formulation.
-Load and unload trucks using a forklift.
-Fill in wherever else is needed. We are a startup and flexibility is ABSOLUTELY key.

    Job Requirements:
-Minimum 1 year experience working in a production brewery
-You need to love beer like you love your firstborn (if applicable)
-An obsession with cutting edge beer styles and experimentation
-Extremely strong knowledge of brewing science and techniques
-Mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform machine maintenance and fix broken things
    -Valid driver’s license
    -Knowledge of brewery CIP systems
-Flexible schedule with the ability to work nights and weekends
-Be an extremely diligent record keeper (like, EXTREMELY diligent)
    -Be punctual
-Be extremely tidy! Our facility is completely on display for the customers.
    -Ability to multi-task well
-Ability to read, write, and perform basic math functions

    Physical Requirements
-Ability to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly over your head and maneuver 165 lbs.
-Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl
-Heavy physical work including climbing stairs, climbing into tanks, pulling hoses, etc.
-Willing to work in wet, hot and cold conditions
-Willing to work in consistently loud environments
-Ability to work safely with potentially hazardous chemicals

    Recommended Experience/Attributes
-College education preferably in microbiology and/or chemistry
-Formal brewing education from U.C. Davis, Siebel, or similar
