Separator hot turb

Anyone with experience using separator instead of whirlpool?

Not used one myself on the hot side, but I have heard of people using them. They say it makes even more noise than usual, and according to the manufacturer the seals and bearings have reduced life at higher temps. You can look at horizontal decanters, I have seen at least one article in the MBAA technical quarterly that says they are better for hotside trub removal.
